Our vision has always been to add value to the lives of Nigerians by providing affordable pharmaceuticals of excellent quality. This drove the evolution to distributor of our own brands in 1996 with our brand of Ciprofloxacin, Ciprotab, which is today a market leader in the antibiotics segment. We subsequently set up our first local manufacturing facility in July 2002, which was eventually lent to a contract manufacturing Joint Venture after we commissioned a bigger plant in 2006, incorporating a liquid line. In 2008, Fidson was listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) and is now one of the leading indigenous pharmaceutical companies in Nigeria.
MD/CEO’s Profile – Dr Fidelis Akhagboso
Dr Fidelis Akhagboso Ayebae is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fidson Healthcare Plc, Nigeria’s foremost Pharmaceutical company which he founded in 1995 and is today renowned for her defining role in the manufacturing and marketing of healthcare products.
Having served in various senior management positions for nearly 2 decades in Citibank, Nigeria and Metalum Limited, a project engineering company, he embarked on his entrepreneurial journey in 1991 with the establishment of Ayebe Investments Limited- an industrial chemicals imports company. In his quest for greater challenges in the business space, he took advantage of opportunities available in the pharmaceutical sector with the establishment of Fidson Drugs Ltd (now Fidson Healthcare Plc).
Fidson Healthcare Plc started out as a pharmaceutical distribution company that has today emerged as a frontline player in the pharmaceutical sector. Dr Ayebae has successfully steered the company from its humble beginnings to a publicly quoted company with over 200 different brands across 13 key therapy/disease areas. The company currently employs over 500 Nigerians and has attained many milestones within her 20 year history under his leadership.
This humble achiever is a Civil Engineer and Business Management Practitioner. He has received a number of awards and recognitions notably, the ‘CEO of the Year on the Nigerian Stock Exchange’ in 2012, ‘One of Ernst & Young’s Emerging Entrepreneurs in West Africa’, also in 2012 and recipient of the ‘Top 25 CEOs of the Year by BusinessDay’ (leading Business publication in Nigeria) for 2 consecutive years in 2013 and 2014.
Fidelis’ immense contributions within the pharmaceutical industry and the Nigerian manufacturing community has earned him an Honorary Doctorate degree from Igbenedion University, a leading private university in Nigeria and a Fellowship of Federal Polytechnic, Auchi.
Dr Ayebae is a distinguished industrialist and Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Affairs Management and the Chartered Institute of Administrators. He is a member of the Institute of Directors (IoD), and a member of the advisory team within the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Group of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (PMG MAN). He also serves on the board of many companies including NEM Insurance Plc and Jubilee Life Mortgage Limited.
