Artemis Laboratories Ltd formerly Sewell Pharmaceuticals Limited, is a Pharmaceutical Manufacturing company located at Plot 4, Block 4, Ogun State Housing Corporation & Industrial Estate, Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria. The company was originally incorporated on October 14, 1983, but started pharmaceutical business in 1995 after registration by Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) as pharmaceutical manufacturing premises. However, it started production in 1997 after approval by National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) as local manufacturer of pharmaceuticals. Nevertheless, in March 2017, Artemis Life Sciences Nig. Limited, a member of Vista International Limited Group, acquired Sewell Pharmaceuticals Limited.
The change in name from Sewell Pharmaceuticals Limited to Artemis Laboratories Ltd, came into effect on August 1, 2022 with a new Certificate of Incorporation issued by the Registrar-General of Corporate Affairs Commission. The name change is informed by the acquisition of Sewell Pharmaceuticals Limited by Artemis Life Sciences Nig. Ltd and the subsequent expansion, remodelling and upgrade of the pharmaceutical manufacturing facility into Oral Solid Dosage Form (Tablet) besides the already existing Oral Liquid Dosage (OLD) Form to meet the cGMP requirements respectively. Moreover, the change in name is to reflect better the business of the company and to project the corporate image as well as reposition the organization in the pharmaceutical market space, by making clear relationship with the parent company Artemis Life Sciences Nig. Ltd. Consequently, the current upgrade and expansion of the manufacturing facility to cGMP standard will allow not only increasing the production capability but also increasing its range both in the generic segment and specialist products. Hence, the company’s activities in basic drugs and formulations are currently in Oral Liquid Dosage and Oral Solid Dosage (Tablets) Forms that include analgesics, haematinics, antacids, cough mixtures, antimalarial and antimicrobial agents.
